XML Sitemap Generator

Crawl any website and generate a clean, search-engine-ready sitemap.xml in seconds — accurate priorities, changefreq, robots.txt compliance, and an instant download. No signup.

How the XML Sitemap Generator Works

Enter your homepage URL and the tool performs a real, live crawl of your site — it does not guess your structure from a template. Starting at the URL you provide, it follows internal <a href> links breadth-first, records every indexable HTML page it finds, checks each one for a noindex directive, and skips anything blocked by your robots.txt. The result is compiled into a valid sitemap.xml file that follows the sitemaps.org protocol used by Google, Bing, and every other major search engine.

Enter your URL

Paste your homepage or a specific section URL you want mapped.

2

We crawl it live

The engine follows internal links, checking robots.txt and noindex tags as it goes.

Review the results

See exactly which pages were included, and which were skipped and why.

4

Download & submit

Get a ready-to-upload sitemap.xml, then submit it in Search Console.

What Gets Calculated Automatically

📍

<loc>

The canonical, normalized URL of every page found — lowercased host, trailing slashes and fragments cleaned up.

🕒

<lastmod>

Pulled from the server's Last-Modified response header when available, so search engines know what's actually new.

🔁

<changefreq>

Estimated from crawl depth — your homepage defaults to daily, hub pages to weekly, deep pages to monthly — and fully overridable per URL pattern.

<priority>

Scaled from 1.0 down to 0.3 based on how many clicks deep a page sits from your homepage.

Why a Correct Sitemap Matters for SEO

A sitemap does not directly improve rankings, but it directly affects crawl efficiency — how quickly and completely search engines discover your content. On a small site with strong internal linking, a sitemap is a nice-to-have. On a larger or newer site, an e-commerce catalog, or any site with pages that are more than three clicks from the homepage, a sitemap is often the difference between a page getting indexed in hours versus never being found at all. It is also the fastest way to tell Google exactly which URLs you consider canonical, especially after a migration, a URL structure change, or a large content push.

Accuracy & Methodology

This tool prioritizes correctness over speed. It fetches your live robots.txt before crawling and honors Disallow/Allow rules for the * user-agent group; it inspects each page's <meta name="robots"> tag and excludes anything marked noindex; it follows HTTP redirects to their final destination rather than sitemapping a dead link; and it stays strictly within your domain — external links are never included. Non-HTML resources (images, PDFs, scripts, stylesheets) are excluded from the page sitemap by default, with an optional image-sitemap mode for sites that want their images indexed too. Full scoring and crawl-rule details are documented on our Methodology page.

What This Tool Does Not Do

  • It does not crawl JavaScript-only navigation. If your links are rendered client-side without real <a href> tags, some pages may not be discovered — a server-rendered or pre-rendered sitemap from your CMS will be more complete.
  • It does not host or auto-submit your sitemap. You upload the downloaded file to your own server and submit it yourself in Search Console — this keeps you in full control of your site's crawl signals.
  • It is not a full site audit. For broken links, duplicate content, and technical SEO issues, pair this with our SEO Score Checker.
  • It does not guarantee indexing. A sitemap tells search engines a page exists; whether it gets indexed still depends on content quality, crawl budget, and dozens of other ranking-adjacent factors outside a sitemap's control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this XML sitemap generator really free?

Yes. The sitemap generator is completely free with no signup, no page limit paywall, and no watermark in the output file. RankifyPro is funded by Google AdSense, not by tool subscriptions.

How many pages can it crawl?

You can crawl up to 500 pages and 8 levels deep in a single run. For larger sites we recommend generating the sitemap directly from your CMS (most platforms like WordPress, Shopify, and Webflow can produce one natively) or running multiple targeted crawls of specific sections.

Does the tool respect robots.txt?

Yes, by default. The crawler fetches your robots.txt first and skips any path disallowed for the "*" user-agent group, so the sitemap only ever contains pages you have not already told search engines to avoid. You can turn this off in Advanced Options if you specifically want an unfiltered crawl.

What are priority and changefreq, and do they still matter?

The <priority> and <changefreq> tags are part of the original sitemaps.org protocol. Google has stated it largely ignores both when deciding how to crawl, but Bing and other engines still weight them lightly, and they remain useful documentation for your own team. We calculate them automatically based on crawl depth (your homepage gets 1.0/daily, deeper pages taper down), and you can override the changefreq for specific URL patterns in Advanced Options.

How do I submit the sitemap to Google and Bing after downloading it?

Upload the sitemap.xml file to your site's root directory (e.g., yoursite.com/sitemap.xml), then submit the URL in Google Search Console under Sitemaps, and in Bing Webmaster Tools under Sitemaps. It is also good practice to add a Sitemap: line pointing to it inside your robots.txt file.

Why did the tool find fewer pages than my site actually has?

The crawler only follows standard <a href> links reachable from your homepage within the crawl depth you set — pages that are orphaned (linked from nowhere), blocked by robots.txt, gated behind a login, or loaded purely via JavaScript navigation without real anchor tags can be missed. Increasing "Max Crawl Depth" or starting the crawl from a category/hub page usually helps.

Is my URL or website data stored after I generate a sitemap?

No. The crawl runs in memory for that single request only. We do not store the URLs we discover, the pages we fetch, or the generated XML on our servers — the file exists only in your browser once it is returned to you.
